 History
The first Australian Open took place on 1905 at Cricket Ground. Until 1912, it was named Australian Championships, and Australia y New Zealand were both its organizers. Women took part first in the Australian Open in 1922. By the end of the 70's, the Australian Open acquired major relevance among the most famous payers in the world. Up to that time, almost all the Australian Open champions are natives.

In 1972, the Australian Association of Tennis decided to organize the tournament anually. Sydney, Perth, Brisbane, and New Zealand organized the tournament until the Open finally established in Melbourne in 1988. From that time, the surface changed from grass to the current hard court, called Rebound Ace. The park where the Australian Open is seated is called Melbourne Park from 1997.
